Software is part of the control environment

An AML/KYC platform can help structure onboarding, screening, risk inputs, workflow prompts and record keeping. The right platform may significantly reduce manual work. It does not, by itself, decide who owns each obligation across an organisation or ensure that open actions are followed through.

The useful question is not whether software or people are better. It is which tasks can be standardised in a system, which need documented human judgement, and how management sees the result.

Recurring work that still needs an owner

  • Assign and monitor control responsibilities across offices and teams.
  • Triage exceptions and escalate material decisions within documented authority.
  • Keep training, personnel-due-diligence and remediation evidence current.
  • Review platform outputs for completeness, overdue items and emerging patterns.
  • Prepare meaningful information for the AMLCO, senior management and governing body.

A practical operating principle

Use technology for repeatability, visibility and evidence. Keep material AML decisions human-led. Document who reviews exceptions, when a matter is escalated, what evidence is retained and how open actions return to management oversight.
